Summary of Position

Panthera, a young and dynamic conservation organization focusing on the world’s wild cat species, seeks a GIS/Remote Sensing Analyst responsible for compiling and managing geographic data resources, analyzing data, and producing high quality maps.  Primary responsibilities include: managing and operating the program’s Geographic Information System, locating and integrating data from multiple sources, conducting geographic analyses and modeling, and classifying medium and high resolution satellite imagery.  The GIS/Remote Sensing Analyst must be a highly organized self starter, proficient in ArcGIS and ERDAS Imagine, who is able to communicate effectively and work with little supervision. 
Principal Responsibilities

Develop and maintain a large geospatial library to serve the geographic extent of project countries and maintenance of accurate metadata; develop and incorporate geographic data from diverse formats and sources.

Perform advanced analysis, modeling, and query operations to provide support for high level conservation planning and project development; perform vegetative classification of satellite imagery.
Create and maintain original geographic data using digitizing, georeferencing, and spatial analyst tools.

Produce clear and compelling maps for a variety of audiences and uses.

Contribute to writing and editing of project related documents including articles, scientific papers, reports, brochures, and web content; compile narrative reports on data analyses performed.

Establish contacts with other GIS and Remote Sensing professionals as well as geographic institutions from project countries to research, locate, and obtain geographic data needed to meet goals of the project.

Qualifications

Broad working knowledge of ArcGIS, including experience with Spatial Analyst, 3D Analyst, and ArcToolbox.

Working knowledge of ERDAS Imagine, and experience with supervised classifications of medium and high resolution satellite images.

Minimum 3 years experience working with GIS systems and/or a Master’s degree in the field.

Ability to set priorities, organize work-flow, and work independently at several tasks at once, with minimal supervision.

Flexibility to work quickly under changing deadlines and conditions, and recognize changing needs and requirements.

Excellent computer skills a must, including office and presentation software.

Excellent English language skills, verbal and written; fluency in a second language is an asset.

Knowledge of conservation, wildlife, and environmental sciences a plus.

International travel experience is an asset.
