NATURE OF WORK
Professional work in the design and implementation of a Geographic Information System specific to the City’s Department of Public Works and Utilities. The work involves responsibility for the application of professional skills to a wide variety of planning, design, programming, and implementation projects. Manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, and manage day-to-day data maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Maintains, develops, and enhances the accuracy of the City’s GIS database as it relates to Public Works and Utilities, utilizing acceptable quality assurance/quality control methods. Coordinates the Public Works and Utilities global positioning system (GPS) program, including all software and hardware. Researches data to confirm information and to correct errors in database. Researches, analyzes and interprets source maps, aerial photographs, recorded deeds, survey data, subdivision plats, Official Development Plans (ODP), Preliminary Development Plans (PDP), and other legal documents to determine accuracy of various GIS and Asset Management system data. Develops applications to assist end-users in accessing the GIS database and efficiently completing required tasks. Designs and produces maps as needed by the Public Works and Utilities staff. Keeps up-to-date on current GIS technologies. Works with fellow employees to assess needs and develop, design, and implement solutions and applications. Works with consultants to provide services to the City’s GIS program.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs related work as required. Provides technical support to GIS users. Acts as Total Enterprise Asset Management system (TEAM) lead. Provides data entry backup for existing TEAM staff.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Considerable knowledge of the principles and practices of GIS. Experience editing ArcSDE 9.X geodatabases in a versioned environment. Considerable knowledge of GPS processes, software, and hardware. Ability to perform complex GIS spatial and statistical analyses. Ability to plan, design, and implement GIS projects and applications. Considerable knowledge of ArcGIS software operating in the Windows environment. Considerable knowledge of database design and data modeling. Experience working with Public Works and Utilities related GIS assets.

DESIRABLE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Ability to use judgment and initiative in developing work methods and solutions. Be a visionary for overall improvements to the City and Public Works and Utilities Department’s GIS program. Asset management / maintenance management application experience. Knowledge in database reporting methods and applications. Knowledge and skills in cartography. Ability to develop and implement comprehensive GIS and GPS training programs. Knowledge of the sources of information and of research techniques and reporting standards used in GIS. Ability to establish and maintain work processes and documentation concerning GIS editing procedures through the use of written documentation and diagrams. Ability to read and understand engineer design drawings, subdivision plats, annexation maps, ODPs, and PDPs. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, contractors, and other persons contacted in the course of the work. MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
Operates a personal computer, plotter, and printer. Operates general office equipment including telephones, fax, calculators, copy machines, and printers. Operates GPS hardware.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
This position involves mainly sedentary work and occasional trips to meetings and into the field. Requires the ability to lift a maximum of 20 pounds; occasional lifting and carrying of objects; some walking and standing; vision for reading and interpreting information; speech communication and hearing to maintain communications with contractors and employees.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND FORMAL TRAINING
Graduation from an accredited college or university with major course work in GIS or related field. At least two years experience in the use, design, and implementation of the GIS program in a Public Works setting. Experience with GPS units and asset management software strongly preferred. Experience in GIS related programming is highly desirable.

imagery. Uses softcopy photogrammetric workstation technology to classify, measure and record

features.

* Perform classification and collection of topographic and planimetric data using digital stereo

photogrammetric instruments.

contract with the USGS Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center
(NPWRC) in Jamestown, ND. IAP World Services is the on-site technical

Position Description: The individual will be responsible for
following duties:

• Import QuickBird satellite imagery from DVD, create image mosaics
and perform pan-sharpening process in PCI Geomatica software to
create higher spatial resolution multispectral imagery products for
segments of the Missouri River.
• Orthorectify QuickBird imagery using procedures in MicroImage’s Map
and Image Processing System or PCI software
• Export orthorectified QuickBird to geotif and ERDAS .img image
formats for analysis using Definiens Developer software and for
distribution to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
• Perform image segmentation of the QuickBird imagery using Definiens
Developer software. Map habitat types using classification processes
in Definiens Developer. Perform manual editing of object boundaries
and habitat/land cover labels to correct errors which cannot be
resolved using digital image processing techniques.
• Perform an accuracy assessment of habitat/land cover maps using
manual image interpretation procedures. Prepare data for statistical
assessment of map accuracy.
• Export habitat maps from Definiens Developer as shape files for use
in ArcGIS. Convert habitat maps in shape file format to file
geodatabases in ArcGIS and validate topology. .
• Perform vector and raster analyses of habitat maps to characterize
habitat temporal dynamics using ArcGIS and IDRISI Andes software.
• Prepare habitat maps in ArcGIS file geodatabase format for
distribution to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
• Prepare FGDC compliant metadata for the orthorectified, pan-
sharpened QuickBird imagery; habitat maps; and other geospatial data
products for segments of the Missouri River.

Requirements: The position requires a bachelor’s degree (or
equivalent work experience) including course work with specialized
experience in geographic or resource analysis. The Contractor shall
have a familiarity in computer analysis, data processing, computer
programming concepts, and familiarity using the latest Windows and/or
UNIX operating systems. Familiarity is also required in describing
natural resources, documenting work steps, and reporting of

Position: GIS Analyst, Full-time

Using geospatial technology our commercial real estate development company creates orthographic maps to market sites for development. Candidate would work directly with a GIS Analyst using Arcview 9.2 to create site information packets which include regional, area, and local aerial maps and other relevant site information for marketing.  Candidate will perform research to find information regarding current client sites and competitor sites using web sources, township officials, etc. Candidates will also research potential sites for development by obtaining property information using courthouse records, zoning and tax maps. The Ideal Candidate: will require: in-depth knowledge of GIS concepts and methods and hands-on experience in the advanced GIS analysis and modeling; excellent communication skills in imparting training and presenting projects in both one-on-one and group settings; 3 years of GIS project management experience with local governments; and good understanding of ArcIMS and Oracle RDBMS. 7.    Assist REGIS help desk to support all GIS software, extensions and custom applications. With the help of a GIS Technician, monitors help desk usage and interact with REGIS participating communities staff to ensure that adequate technical support is provided.

8.    Interacts with vendors to determine available GIS services.  Makes recommendations for contracted services to the REGIS Director.

9.    Completes special projects as requested by the REGIS Director.

10.    Keeps abreast of GIS and related technological developments, information sources, and current issues through continued education and professional growth.  Attends conferences, workshops, and seminars as appropriate.

11.    Establishes and maintains effective relationships with vendors, department administrators, other employees, professional colleagues, and other interests.

12.    Maintains communications with supervisors and co-workers in a professional, respectful and cooperative manner.  Establish cooperative relationships with the staff members

Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Minimum Qualifications:

•    A Bachelor’s Degree in geography, computer science, or a related field

•    Five years working with a Geographic Information System.

MT Dept. of Natural Resources and Conservation’s (DNRC) Water
Management Bureau (Helena) is seeking a Temporary Summer Assistant to
help with an Irrigated Agriculture GIS/Remote Sensing project in
Eastern Montana.

Requirements:
• Basic understanding of GIS data types & attributes.
• Understanding of MS Windows folder structure.
• Experience with ESRI ArcGIS 9.x, ERDAS IMAGINE, and Trimble or
equivalent GPS units.
• Willingness to work overtime, when necessary, to meet project goals.

Duties:
• Assist field team in mapping irrigated lands polygons in Eastern
Montana using a GIS Pen Tablet in the field, GPS Trimble unit, and
downloading real time weather station data.
• Office post-processing and organization of specified databases,
digitizing polygons from aerial photography

Responsibilities:
• Assist in creating/updating metadata files
• Assist with preparing/organizing data for conversion into
geodatabase format
• Prepare documentation of data update process and architecture

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with ESRI ArcGIS 9.2 software (Desktop Products: ArcMap,
ArcCatalog, ArcToolbox)
• Demonstrated skills in manipulating GIS databases
• ERDAS Imagine experience helpful but not necessary
