Position Description:

Background IAP World Services, Inc. has an excellent opportunity for
a full-time Remote Sensing Specialist I to perform work on our
contract with the USGS Northern Prairie Wildlife Research Center
(NPWRC) in Jamestown, ND. IAP World Services is the on-site technical
services contractor and supports NPWRC scientists in their research
projects.

Position Description: The individual will be responsible for
following duties:

• Import QuickBird satellite imagery from DVD, create image mosaics
and perform pan-sharpening process in PCI Geomatica software to
create higher spatial resolution multispectral imagery products for
segments of the Missouri River.
• Orthorectify QuickBird imagery using procedures in MicroImage’s Map
and Image Processing System or PCI software
• Export orthorectified QuickBird to geotif and ERDAS .img image
formats for analysis using Definiens Developer software and for
distribution to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
• Perform image segmentation of the QuickBird imagery using Definiens
Developer software. Map habitat types using classification processes
in Definiens Developer. Perform manual editing of object boundaries
and habitat/land cover labels to correct errors which cannot be
resolved using digital image processing techniques.
• Perform an accuracy assessment of habitat/land cover maps using
manual image interpretation procedures. Prepare data for statistical
assessment of map accuracy.
• Export habitat maps from Definiens Developer as shape files for use
in ArcGIS. Convert habitat maps in shape file format to file
geodatabases in ArcGIS and validate topology. .
• Perform vector and raster analyses of habitat maps to characterize
habitat temporal dynamics using ArcGIS and IDRISI Andes software.
• Prepare habitat maps in ArcGIS file geodatabase format for
distribution to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
• Prepare FGDC compliant metadata for the orthorectified, pan-
sharpened QuickBird imagery; habitat maps; and other geospatial data
products for segments of the Missouri River.

Requirements: The position requires a bachelor’s degree (or
equivalent work experience) including course work with specialized
experience in geographic or resource analysis. The Contractor shall
have a familiarity in computer analysis, data processing, computer
programming concepts, and familiarity using the latest Windows and/or
UNIX operating systems. Familiarity is also required in describing
natural resources, documenting work steps, and reporting of
observations and field measurements.
