The National Park Service’s Heartland Inventory and Monitoring Program is looking for a good candidate to fill an open Student Conservation Association one-year intern to begin August 1, 2008.

The intern will:

Assist in implementing long-term ecological monitoring for the National
Park Service’s Heartland Inventory and Monitoring Network that provides
information for park managers to evaluate the integrity of park ecosystems
and better understand ecosystem processes; provide technical GIS support
for spatial analysis of long-term terrestrial and aquatic monitoring
projects in Midwestern National Parks.

Specific duties will include writing geoprocessing scripts using the
Python computer language, geographical analysis of NPS spatial products
and building spatial models in the ArcGIS ModelBuilder environment.

The candidate should possess the following skills:

Strong ArcGIS spatial analysis skills; ability to write geoprocessing
scripts using Python computer language; working knowledge of the
ModelBuilder environment in ArcGIS.
