The Michigan State Police is recruiting to fill a Senior Planning Analyst position.  This position provides complex analysis and planning support using Geographic Information Systems and related technology.  In addition, it provides advanced technical support in the continuing development and implementation of a Geographic Information System in support of the State Emergency Operations Center and the Statewide Hazard Mitigation Program.

Pay Rate: $42,971 to $62,827 annually plus benefit package

Location:  Lansing, Michigan

In order to qualify for this position you must possess a bachelor’s degree with not less than 21 semester or 32 term hours of city, urban, recreation, natural resources, or regional planning courses.  You must also possess at least three years of professional experience providing data through the systematic planning and development of projects and studies in such areas as community development, natural resources, recreation sites, urbanization, emergency preparedness, or land development.  Please do not apply for this position unless you meet the minimum education and experience requirements as indicated above.

In addition to meeting the above requirements, applicants will be selected based on the following screening criteria:

1. Education and training relevant to the position 2. Level of experience with geospatial analysis, catographic design, projections and coordinate systems, Michigan Geographic Framework, census geography, DIS file formats, GIS project management, and GIS-related statistical attribute information in emergency management, planning, transportation, or related functional areas.
3. Familiarity with ESRI suite of tools, including, but not limited to, ArcView, ArcEditor and ArcIMS 4. Demonstrated writing ability, including organization, style, accuracy, and attention to detail, as demonstrated in resume and cover letter 5. Public speaking experience and effective communication skills
