Assistant Professor, Geographic Analysis and Visualization, tenure track (one full-time position). The Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences Program (IAS) at the University of Washington Bothell (UWB) seeks a dynamic educator who integrates teaching, research, and practice in geographic analysis and representation, including GIS, across diverse fields of study. Possible areas of expertise include: Environmental Science and Natural Resources; Community Studies and Participatory Mapping; Human Landscapes; and Planning and Policy. The successful candidate will join an interdisciplinary faculty working across the arts, humanities and social, and natural sciences in an integrative curriculum that emphasizes fieldwork and community-based scholarship and pedagogy. Two-years teaching experience and PhD required at time of appointment. Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience.
IAS houses undergraduate and graduate programs, is part of a growing campus located 18 miles from Seattle on the eastside of Lake Washington, and has access to the research and funding resources of the three UW campuses. IAS is launching several new undergraduate majors, including degrees in Environmental Studies (BA) and Environmental Science (BS). It also offers Master of Arts degrees in Cultural Studies and Policy Studies. The program as a whole stresses links between diverse fields and methods of inquiry, and values engaged scholarship and experiential learning as central components of its mission. The candidate will have a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical innovation and be prepared to teach an upper-division core course that introduces students to interdisciplinary inquiry. The candidate will also work to promote spatial literacy across the program and campus.
