PURPOSE OF JOB
Oversees and manages the actvities of multiple projects and Team/Project Leads within a country.  Coordinates with assigned Project Leads to ensure that the goals or objectives of the projects are accomplished within the prescribed time frame,funding parameters and resources.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 Reviews each project proposal or plan to determine the appropriate time frame, resources, procedures and processes for completing the project.  Also reviews staffing requirements and determines the allotment of available resources for the overall plan as well as various phases of the project.
 Reviews project status reports prepared by Team/Project Leads and works with the Team/Project Leads to modify processes and procedures as required.  Responsible for providing updates to Field Director and Product Management on changes to the project plan, particularly those that impact timing of delivery.
 Develops workflow procedures and process improvements with input from Team/Project Leads and communicates changes in procedures and processes back to the Team/Project Leads.
 Establishes and manages working relationships with production/OPC. Ensures that communications are kept open and flowing smoothly between and among production/OPC and the various project teams.
 Troubleshoots problems and issues within a country, particularly those involving resource management, quality and training.
 Leads the development and implementation of New Content projects.
 Defines needs for training programs for dissemination to project teams when needed to ensure consistency of delivery.
 Oversees and manages the sourcing function and staffs project teams with temporary resources as needed.
 Prepares and conducts performance appraisals for Team/Project Leads.  Approves all staff performance appraisals within assigned country and approves salary increases.

EDUCATION/SKILLS
 Bachelor’s (University) degree in geography, business administration, cartography or urban planning preferred or the equivalent combination of education and experience. PMI certificate a plus.
 Three to five years of project management experience (preferrably as a DMO Team/Project Lead) typically required for this level of responsibility.
 Experience in international structures (EU).
 Fluency in English required.
 Proficient written and verbal communication skills.
 Knowledge of data collection and the database required.
 Ability to operate independently with proficient organization and planning skills.
 Proficiency in Microsoft Office, specifically with Excel and Word.
 Ability to travel within and outside project coverage area.
 Valid driver’s license with good driving record required.

GIS/RS Lab Manager
The Geospatial Imaging and Informatics Facility (GIIF) is a new interdisciplinary core facility for advanced geospatial informatics technologies in the College of Natural Resources at UC Berkeley. The Facility will support research activities of those interested in geospatial analysis, landscape ecology, and visualization technology. The facility will be available to all CNR departments, non-CNR Departments and scientists throughout California. The GIIF will be the primary training facility on the Berkeley campus for students who are interested in the application of geospatial technology to a wide range of natural resource issues. The GIIF will offer a variety of training options from workshops to short courses, as well as use of specialized geospatial equipment and computers for various research projects.

NorthTree Fire International is accepting applications for Mobile GIS Trailer Managers for the 2008 season. This is a call-when-needed position, with no guarantee of assignments or minimum term of employment. However, if we do have assignments, you will make good money.

Job Description

Successful applicants will staff Mobile GIS Mapping Trailers on wildfire incidents, natural disasters, and other emergencies. GIS-related tasks may include the design and production of map atlases, briefing maps, terrain analysis products, satellite imagery, and other GIS products as requested. Other general tasks include towing generators and trailers, ordering supplies, completing daily invoices, repairing computer hardware, solving network and satellite internet problems, and maintaining a cheerful and positive presence under non-negotiable deadlines.

Requirements

This job often requires deadline-driven-dead-reckoning across choppy GIS seas. A diverse background in all aspects of GIS/Cartography is required. Skills in latenight HP Plotter sweet-talking, an unflappable demeanor, and strong personal stress management skills will help you excel in this job. While a 4 year degree in resource management, geography, or forestry with coursework in GIS or Remote Sensing is preferred, 2 years of professional GIS experience are required, and production cartography or design experience is a big plus. Wildfire experience and current wildfire qualifications are desirable.

Availability

Successful applicants must be available for 14 day assignments between July and October. Work is in 16 hour shifts for up to 14 days. Tent camping is required on many assignments, travel expenses are paid by NTFI. We are especially interested in hiring people who can be available on very short notice (within 6-12 hours) between July 15th and September 15th.

The Stroud Water Research Center (SWRC), the Cartographic Modeling Laboratory (CML) of the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn), and Avencia, Inc. together seek a Project Manager to assist in coordinating in the launch of the WikiWatershedTM Project.  The Project Manager will be a member of the WikiWatershed oversight team, participating in “product” design meetings and setting project priorities. The Project Manager’s day-to-day management responsibilities include scheduling and tracking priority tasks, facilitating communication among project partners, and coordinating the formation and integration of the users’ advisory committees into the project. Additional responsibilities include locating appropriate data sets, curricular materials, and web tools to integrate into the project.
 
QUALIFICATIONS

Post-graduate education (Ph.D. preferred) and relevant experience in a field related to scientific environmental analysis (i.e. watershed science, freshwater ecology, ecosystem science, environmental chemistry, hydrology, soil science or other earth sciences, environmental planning) and/or education.
Demonstrated project management experience and ability and desire to work collaboratively with wide-ranging partners (e.g. software developers, scientists, citizens, educators and government officials).
Strong computer skills, with a strong preference for familiarity with: ESRI Geographic Information System (GIS) software; other geographic data models (i.e. Google Earth); relational database management systems (RDBMS); web authoring tools and other communications software (i.e. Adobe).
Understanding of the software development cycle.
Strong understanding of web technologies.
Demonstrated high level of organization, good judgment; and critical thinking.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including effective presentation of relevant outreach and educational materials to user groups.
The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment.

WikiWatershedTM Project Description
The Stroud Water Research Center (SWRC), Avencia, Inc., and the Cartographic Modeling Laboratory (CML) of the University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) are launching the WikiWatershedTM project, which will tap into new, robust internet models of geographic data-sharing and cyber-networking thereby empowering ordinary people to learn about their watersheds, monitor their water quality, and participate in managing their water resources. WikiWatershedTM will establish the infrastructure for an open cyber-community to share a variety of geotagged information and simulation models, and its web portal will seamlessly link content on widely used internet sites to water quality data within relational databases hosted at UPenn. As the term “Wiki” implies, the ultimate goal of WikiWatershedTM is to be a user-driven cyber-community in which citizens, teachers, students and others participate in the protection of freshwater resources.
