JOB TITLE: Photogrammetry Technician, Level 3

SUBGROUP: Photogrammetry

GENERAL SUMMARY:

 

Compiles geospatial data required for multiple-scale map production from

scanned aerial and digital photographs. Applies standard photogrammetric techniques to georeference

three-dimensional image information interpretable from digital photography or other

imagery. Uses softcopy photogrammetric workstation technology to classify, measure and record

features.

EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS:

* Perform classification and collection of topographic and planimetric data using digital stereo

photogrammetric instruments.

* Process digital images for geospatial applications.

* Apply advanced aerial survey and photogrammetric mapping principles in all efforts.

* Apply photogrammetric technology utilizing softcopy stereo workstations to compile spatially related

information from digital photographs.

* Update and correct existing photogrammetrically compiled data utilizing new imagery.

* May conduct or contribute in project set-up tasks.

* May conduct or contribute in aerial triangulation processes.

* May contribute in an estimating role for specific project tasks.

* Follows instructions for specific projects and the guidance provided by designated Project Lead or

Project Manager.

* Adhere to Quality Control protocols as directed.

* Play a key role relating to quality control and/or project leadership as assigned.

* Train and direct of specific staff members as assigned.

* Communicate all production related concerns and inquiries to the Photogrammetry Manager or

designated Technical Lead.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITY REQUIRED:

* Post secondary training in Geography, Photogrammetry, Cartography, Imagery Analysis, GIS, Survey,

or Civil Engineering.

* Six or more years experience may substitute for post secondary training.

* Advanced technical expertise in the areas of photogrammetry, or related areas such as cartography,

surveying, civil engineering, geophysics, and physical science.

* Experience with: MicroStation, Intergraph and related CAD/GIS software, Classification and collection

of topographic and planimetric features from aerial imagery using photogrammetric

instruments/workstations, General knowledge and understanding of commonly applied standards for the

application of photogrammetry, such as those published by the American Society for Photogrammetry

and Remote Sensing (ASPRS), the U.S. Federal Geographic Data Committee (FGDC) or other national

equivalents.

* Four years experience in applied photogrammetry, including softcopy systems.

EDUCATION:

 

Post secondary training in Geography, Photogrammetry, Cartography, Imagery Analysis,

GIS, Survey, or Civil Engineering preferred

GIS technician needed for ShrubMAP, a multidisciplinary research program focused on linking the responses of animal and plant populations to habitat restoration projects in the shrub-steppe of northeastern Utah.
This is a full time, 9 month position with the possibility of extension for one year. The wage is $11.66-13.00/hour depending on experience. The GIS technician’s primary responsibilities include providing support for five sub-projects (pygmy rabbits, sage grouse, small mammals, habitat restoration, and historical vegetation) and assisting the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and Utah State University in the development of a state-wide monitoring plan for these subprojects.

Successful applicants will have experience organizing and manipulating data in ArcGIS. Previous experience with GPS and related computer applications are preferred but not required.

The project will be based at Utah State University in Logan, UT. There are many outdoor recreational opportunities just a short distance from town. Additionally, Bear Lake, the High Uinta Wilderness Area, Wyoming Wind River Range, and Salt Lake City are all a short distance away.

Education/Skills:

AS/BS in GIS, Geomatics, Geography, or other program with GIS coursework,
1+ years in position(s) involved with GIS data processing,
ESRI ArcGIS 9.X desktop experience required,
Experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office required,
Cartographic and geospatial conceptual and practical knowledge required,
ESRI ArcGIS server experience desirable,
Utility/pipeline GIS experience preferred,
Civil CAD, Land Survey and GPS experience beneficial.

The ideal candidate should possess basic knowledge of GIS computing skills and understand basic principles of mapping. The selected candidate will assist the GIS Manager on current projects through data creation, data entry, data management and client interaction.

Duties:
- Creating spatial features, developing databases, database management, data conversions, and performing spatial analyses
- Assist project managers produce visual exhibits for project meetings
- Researches, evaluates, recommends and implements technical and administrative solutions to achieve application objects to forward client goals
- Works closely and coordinates assignments with GIS Manager, Engineers, and Project Managers to obtain project information and ensure GIS applications are accurate and complete

Requirements:
- BA/BS degree in GIS, Cartography, Geography or other related field, GIS Certificate, or previous work experience in GIS.
- Knowledge of ESRI GIS software, creating and editing ESRI Geodatabases and other GIS data
- Good communication and organization skills
- Previous experience with or knowledge of Civil Engineering practices a plus
