This is a newly created position that reports directly to the County Manager and Assistant County Managers.
This position will lead vital work across the Unified Government of Athens-Clarke County (ACCUG) to design and execute an enterprise-wide geospatial program to support the entire consolidated government. This will include such efforts as to plan, coordinate, implement, and oversee efforts related to Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) in support ACCUG and its citizens. S/he will build a program to achieve economies of scale across ACCUG and elevate the quality and use of geospatial sciences/technologies to support its internal workings and enhance the critical support it provides its citizens. S/he will coordinate with ACCUG’s divisions, departments, and outside agencies; will direct, coordinate, and monitor the work of assigned staff, consultants, vendors, and contractors; and perform a variety of professional/programmatic work in support of GIS/RS programs including serving as a liaison to, coordinating with, and providing high level support and staff assistance to boards, committees, and outside agencies, and performing additional tasks as assigned.
Minimum Training & Experience Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:
- Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Cartography, Computer Graphics or related field with a minimum of six years of progressive GIS experience; a conceptual knowledge of cartographic principles, geodatabase design, internet-based web mapping, and publishing geospatial services; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
- Three years of supervisory experience is required.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
