Website Wild Asia
We are working in regions where forest-loss is active and are wanting to find ways to develop low-cost solutions to making information available – which can be used to monitor regions more effectively. There are a number of global initiatives – like Global Forest Watch etc – but we find the accuracy of information to be wanting for local advocacy. We recently came across GEE as a tool that could be used and have a number of applications we thought would be good to explore:
a. Monthly/annual – records/alerts of recent land-use change
b. Monitoring of “forest quality” growth in areas where there are active conservation initiatives
c. Monitoring of oil palm outside of industrial plantations (height, disease, etc)
We have several years of field data and a small team of people that can handle basic GIS skills but stops there.
This really is a “call” to ask if there is anyone out there (with time, interest, etc) that would be keen to explore these topics using the GEE as the primary tool; and to share the results so others may also take this up too.
